Batman Lane

I’ve always loved the names of places, ever since Bangladesh, when I was at the age when a place name actually meant something to me. At first, the fascination was over the sounds: Gulshan and Banani. Then when I moved to the UK, it was over their possible derivation: Upper Diddling, Dullingham, Pratts Bottom or Badgers Mount. When I moved to Australia, the love was of what Western eyes brought to names such as Kangy Angy and Tumbi Umbi.
But road names have never really done it for me, they’ve always seemed far more mundane. Until this one. This just appeals…
